Abstract:

This article explores the contextual issue of TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) theory through theoretical approach. Through a careful examination of TOD’s theoretical origins and evolution, the analysis here reveals that the formation of TOD is closely associated with the evolution of the various theoretical branches of the American’s city planning theory system, which mainly includes the community, the regionalism, the formalist, the ecological and the functionalist theories. TOD has been incorporated into the latest theories of livability and sustainability as an essential part in the U.S.
